Take Heart

I was looking forward to Saturday to checking out the AIRSHOW 2008 at Changi. The above is what we missed out on. (Lovely photo from Widah.) Oh how my heart ached for the opportunity loss. Oh well... But even before we could reach the event venue, the unfortunate chain of hiccups turned us off entirely. Therefore, we gave up on trying to find a parking lot, (which we probably have only 1% chance of hitting,) next queuing for the shuttle bus which will probably take us 45mins to reach the front of the queue, and then standing on the bus for another 45mins due to the traffic jam all the way to the venue.

So... We decided to just HECK CARE everything, the hordes of people at Pasir Ris and the crazy long queues to go for lunch instead. Then, we got stuck in the traffic jam with all the vehicles heading towards the Airshow. Urgh... It didnt help at all that the weather was hot. HOT. (It can even reheat your cold cup of java in a Styrofoam cup. Try teppanyaki on the car's bonnet too!)

After a gazillion years burning some rubber on the roads, we reached Astons Specialties at East Coast Road- Dixi & friends' favourite steak place and we had to continue queuingggggggg again to get a 4-person table. The place did keep its reputation for being value for money, except for charging 30cents per glass of iced water. I might even start enjoying Steaks one day... Haha. Anyway, I suggested checking out Ice Cream Chefs after lunch, since it was along the same stretch of road as well. BUT, when we asked the server for directions, they said its CLOSED. Alright! Gimme a High Five... Thus, we went to Holland Village instead, in search of novelty ice cream. We popped into Cold Rock Ice Creamery (opp Hagen Daz) and I got a choc mint kiddie scoop in a cone with chips ahoy topping. So they smashed up my icecream and cookie, mished & mashed it on their "frozen" rock slab and ka-chinged my $6!

We were apprehensive about the premium prices which they charged, in fact i think its ridiculous for the quality since the ice cream just taste like stir-fried Walls ice cream. Quoting Mel, I think we wasted our calories on lousy food. :( After which, we hung around Holland V shopping centre, before heading over to my place. I think the best activity to do in my room is to SLEEP. Haha.

Anyhow, Char & I made a trip down to Wiener Kaffeehaus at Bukit Timah on Wednesday.
They moved from Outram, into my territory.
Its a cosy cafe, but rather understaffed i think.
As the entire floor was only manned by ONE server during the busy lunch time.

Bratwurst ($12)
Grilled smoked sausage served with parsley potatoes and Sauerkraut.
This was yummy, but really, really salty.
FYI, the pickled cabbages doesnt taste like the usual fibre you slap onto your hot-dog though.

Schweinebraten mit Sauerkraut & Knodel ($21.00)
Viennese roast pork with pickled cabbage and potato dumpling.
All I remembered was the queer taste of the dumpling.
Its texture was extremely dense.

We had some desserts after that. BUT they didnt have any SACHERTORTE!
What nonsense! That made my trip there almost worthless. Sigh.
We had a apple strudel (thin filo pastry type) & a berry-jam tart,
which was overloaded with all the sugary goodness, I almost kneeled over and died.

We dropped by NJC after lunch and it was an eye opener. OMG, the juniors have a GORGEOUS synthetic field now!!! Another perk which they enjoy is the great NJ food. Thankfully, most of the canteen food stalls are still there. No more Yong Tau Foo though! (I still want my omelette with ham, cheese & mushroom! And the western stall aunty wont get your order even if you repeat thrice. Haha.) Oh however, the infamous vending machine which plays this annoying tune when you slot in a coin, doesnt play music anymore. Which remained quite a mystery to me, as the drinks in the display looked ancient. It cant be serviced, can it??

We also checked out all the current faculty staff and reminisced about our former teachers. Haha. I miss the days when we terrorised our helpless teachers. Haha. Then, we also happened to witness the junior's mass dance- it looked like an ACES Day workout! It was probably orientation 2 time, the new kids looked positively bored, seemingly unaffected by the councillors' boundless energies.

I think the highlight of our surprise visit was the BBall friendly match btw NJ & some Chinese Team w 2metres tall players --- Just think Yao Ming versus Spore Slingers! Haha. We got owned obviously.
