Weekend surprise

6 Oct, Saturday evening-- Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar

The only typical photo you'd see about the bazaar.
I didnt bother taking other pictures because you can find them simply by Googling!
In a nutshell, the experience was fascinating.
Though after a couple of hours, i get puzzled about the number of carpets on sale.
Do people actually need/buy so manyyyy carpets during this season? Haha.
Oh and the tibits/cookies are sooo pretty & intricate, compared to the chinese ones.
Other than that, it was alot of walking, squeezing, navigating narrow passageways & trying to stay sane in the humidity & heat.

I somehow find this picture strangely beautiful.
It's sort of dirty and filthy-looking, ironically coupled with the blessings of symmetry.
Relics of our past in some forgotten alley near Changi Road.

Then, after all that walking, we ended up in some DAMN OLD SCHOOL restaurant.
It's comparable to PRINCE at Coronation Shopping Centre. Haha. No kidding!
The sundaes & drinks etc were all very retro looking. As you can tell from the above.
The deco was yeah the usual gaudy stuff.
They had really comfortable padded Primary school classroom chairs too!
It was a relief from the heat & the maddening noise & crowd outside.
It even bordered on surrealism as you view the chaos from inside the eatery.
Naughty kids kept knocking on the fake plastic windows. Haha.

7 Oct, Sunday evening-- Sushi Yoshida at Devonshire road (Somerset area)

I have died and gone to heaven.
And guess what?
Heaven looks just like Japan Hour!
I walked in, and i was like GOSH. SO ATAS!
(FYI, i had only 38bucks in my wallet & i wasnt even planning on spending more than half of it on my meal!)
Well... After some appetisers which included some tempura fish, escargots & some duck thingie,
we had this gorgeous sashimi platter. (sighhhhhh)

Next, it was the lovely sushi platter.
Sigh. Oh, I decided that fish roe isnt my kinda thing.
They taste like cod liver oil! :S

Our final savoury dish was this mini hot-pot thingie with butter sauce,
button mushrooms, crab meat and maybe crab roe?
I'm not too sure, but it was really delicious.

We were seated at the counter, in full view of the Chef.
I know that in Japanese Fine-dining, its like the MOST COVETED SEAT EVER.
The service is immaculate.
I also noticed a ton of awards & accolades placed casually on the top shelf.
A causal observer wouldnt have noticed it. Not that they need to boast any of that anyway!
Well, the main chef was really friendly and made sure that we were nicely well-fed.
Oh yeah we had this really smooth chilled sake as well.
We had complimentary strawberry vodka from the chef as well!
It was like the BEST alcoholic drink I've had.
Think Baileys in Little Twin Stars sweet flavour. No sourish bitter aftertaste!
We are now determined to find this exotic nectar!
We had complimentary fruits to end off the gastronomic experience.
No watermelons, excuse me...
We had some BIG, BLACK & JUICY grapes from heaven.
The chef taught us to bite off the top & suck the flesh away.
I havnt tasted anything like it.
I really can just drop dead immediately after dinner!
Oh. I forgot to add the final blow: It costs about SGD130 per person.
So you have probably noticed that I'm dead, like NOW.
